Brief Description

The Girls Safe Spaces were created under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), which is a World Bank-assisted project in Nigeria designed to improve secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls by creating safe and accessible learning spaces, fostering an enabling environment for girls, and strengthening project management. The Girls Safe Spaces provide safe environments for girls in schools to prevent sexual harassment and early marriage. This project, led by the Federal Ministry of Education and funded by the World Bank, aims to support 12 million adolescent girls in Northern states where child marriage rates are high, including Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina. The project had a budget of USD 500 million, with a portion dedicated to creating and maintaining these safe spaces.
